Hubby Filling in For Mom-in-law

Life is complicated, relationships are hard to understand for anyone these days. Hubby filling in for mom-in-law!! I thought I had heard the last about relationships but i was wrong.

IF EKTA Kapoor ever decides to make a sequel for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, then she could take a cue from our story. Here's the plot for the sequel: A sari clad bahu enters her new home with her husband. She looks around and smiles from within, thinking about her new-found freedom - she can finally breathe in a sasu-maa-free world.

She moves towards the bedroom, looks at herself in the mirror and struggles to get out of the sixyard kanjivaram silk; she slips into a pair of hot pants and an old loose T-shirt (sans mangalsutra) and admires her size-zero figure in the mirror. And lol she sees saasu maa standing right behind her! In a jiffy she turns but can't see sasu-maa instead it is her HUSBAND, who is staring at her with that familiar scornful gaze that reminds her of her mother-in-law!

The episode, of course, ends here. You can't expect a Kserial to go beyond one particular scene in one episode. In real life, however, the plot is a little less filmy. There are no close-ups or surreal camera angles, but the rest of it is all the same. Women, living away from their in-laws, are complaining of a new mother-in-law already in place - their husband. No matter what, they won't let their wives miss their mothers-in-aw. Right from chopping the right kind of potatoes for French fries to wearing the right clothes - even washing hands after putting on your shoes. In a nuclear set-up, husbands can assume the role of mothers-in-law (or mothers) and become your best (or worst) critics.

KITCHEN CABINET

"My husband has advice to give me even in the kitchen. Husbands should help a woman in the kitchen alright, but he ought to know that the wife is the boss there. Too much interference and criticism - it gets a little hard at times for me to tolerate," says Ananya Ram, 28, an advertising professional. She is at her wits end trying to figure out where the man she loved and married is. "I have never really stayed with my mother-in-law, but I am sure it would have been the same. I might as well have married my mother-in law, except of course...," she giggles.

Ram has been married for just a year and her husband can perhaps teach her a thing or two about cooking. But is it fair for a man to interfere with the functioning of a perfect kitchen that has been churning out some finger-licking recipes for over 30 years?

"No," says Chitra Ahluwalia, a 31-year-old housewife. "My father loves to get into the kitchen and tell my mother what to do. My mother fumes with rage whenever he does something like that. After 30 years of cooking, if someone tells you how to cook, you will definitely blow your top," says Ahluwalia.

REBEL WITH A CAUSE

Ten years of marriage has taught 35-year-old Shikha Gulati a lot. She is now an expert in tackling the husband-disguised- as-mom-in-law phenomenon. "Husbands do become a reflection of their mothers, especially when they are not living with them. Often, they try to force their mothers' opinions on their wives," says Gulati.

"They want everything to be the way it was when they were living with their mother. And the worst part is they keep getting tips from their mothers on the phone," she says, talking of her own experience. "But I am a very independent person and often rebel and do what I feel like," she says and talks about the time when she packed her bags and went off to Jim Corbett with her children on a school trip.

"He always tells us not to do certain things and I do just the opposite. We keep telling him to take us on a holiday, but to no avail. I couldn't watch my children getting bored so I went off with the kids. My husband kept wondering what was happening," says Gulati. Her husband obviously puts up a protest. "He stops talking to me for a couple of days. But then I am the one who takes the initiative to resolve the problem," she giggles. "So now I tell him about my plans at least two days in advance," she says.

Ahluwalia considers herself lucky that she has a comparatively 'cool' husband. "Just give him good food and he will be happy," she says. But she has friends who constantly dictate their wives on what to do.

"Too much of male domination is intolerable. There is a saturation point to everything. I have friends whose husbands keep ticking them off for every small thing. They tell them what to wear, how to conduct themselves, what hairstyle should they get and how to cook. If they ever go out for dinners, they are the ones who place the order. They interfere in anything and everything," she says. "They want their wives to change and they question their wives individuality, which is definitely wrong," adds Ahluwalia.

BLESSING IN DISGUISE?

However, it is much better to tolerate an interfering husband than a nagging mother-in-law, admits Ahluwalia. "Husbands might be assuming the role of mothers-in-law, but sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. We do need a critic at home and I can't go on taking all the decisions on my own. Someone has to question them too. That way some balance is maintained," Ahluwalia says.

Ram too gives her problem a second thought. "My husband acts more like my mother, than my mother-in-law. If I could live with my mother for 27 years and still be in love with her, I am sure I will be able to tolerate my nit-picking husband as well," says Ram.

For Puja Bakshi, a 33-year-old housewife, it is the other way round. "My husband is more chilled out when he is alone with me. But he tends to get a bit critical when my mother-in-law comes visiting. He wants me to maintain a particular decorum when his parents are around," says Bakshi. Since she was brought up in a nuclear family, she saw the same thing happen in her family as a child.

"My father was also very chilled out with my mother. But again when my dadi would come visiting, he would get a bit critical," she says. However this doesn't bother her even one bit. Bakshi puts things into perspective: "A marriage is all about companionship. You become friends with your husband after a while. And there's nothing wrong if your friends get critical. After all your friends are your best critics." Now this is something that Ekta Kapoor will never talk about in her serial.

30 Days To A Great Blog Challenge - 27. Extend ideas from a single topic.

The blogs that are successful in the long run are the ones who keep on adding fresh content regularly. Writer's block is a problem that every blogger has experienced sometime in his life, in this case bloggers have no clue about the source of inspiration for their next post.

Today's task is going to help you overcome writers block and help you have sufficient ideas for new posts. Important point to remember in this case is to know your limits and do not put yourself under undue pressure for fresh ideas. This method involves developing a mind map which will help you get ideas for new posts from the posts which you have already written on your blog.

Take each one of your previous posts and use brainstorming method to find out whether any of the ideas expressed in these posts can be extended further. Simple suggestions that will help you develop new posts from the old ones.

1. Discussing a question or suggestion given by your reader on that post.

2. Writing against the ideas you previously expressed in that post.

3. Taking news post and expressing your opinions about it.

4. Making the article more useful for your readers by writing a 'How to ' post.

5. Building up on ideas previously mentioned in your post.

It is all about learning from your previous post and taking the ideas further. Thus you are doing nothing but looking at the topic from another perspective. This adds value to your blog and for your readers as they get what they are looking for. This also allows you to be creative and come up with as many out of the box ideas as you want.

My first ever ebook "How To Make $ 100 A Day Using Google Adsense" which is free to download is based on this technique. The first part of the series mentions the minimum requirements in order to be eligible for adsense. Next part mentions how to set up adsense on your blog. Third part mentions what are the basic requirements to make profit by using adsense on your blog. Last part mentions types of adsense ad blocks which you can use on your site to maximize revenue earned from your site. Thus a central idea "Why you should use adsense on your blog" was responsible for generating related ideas for the posts.

Today's task for all the bloggers.
Come up with a list of at least 100 topics that you might want to blog about in the future. At this point of time you are just doing brainstorming, so you need to only write down titles for your posts. If you want to you can start writing posts from today itself. If your blog is a new blog, you would be in a much better position to come up with ideas for the 100 topics you might want to blog about.

Almost every successful blogger uses this technique to get ideas for new posts. It also helps you to write about relevant topics for your audience which you might have missed earlier. This will help improve your reputation and promote yourself as a brand in your niche.

Make a good website - this is where it all only starts!

Guest post by lena Morrish and Dima Nikolayenko from internetbusinessBTS.com

Online Marketing and Promotion of your Internet Business Article

Online marketing is effective and cheaper than the traditional methods of marketing. It is easier to track customer response and build relationships to advantage.

The whole idea of taking your small business online is to cut down on operational expenses and also to widen your customer base. An online venture helps you cut down on rental and employee costs and should ideally be also able to bring down your marketing and promotional costs. This is to be expected as online advertising and marketing is much cheaper than print or television media. So are you effectively using online promotions to market your website?

The story begins when you have to make a good website. There can be no ifs nor buts regarding the quality of your website and the product or service that you are offering online. Once you are ready with a good website look around for cheap hosting packages that suit your needs and also are easy on the pocket. Once you have launched your website online you will need a good email responder and you are all set. The next step is to indulge in effective online promotion and advertising to attract traffic to your website.

A recent poll report by Harris Polls is titled to convey the impression that a large number of people still turn to print media when they are on the look out for bargains. Nothing could be more misleading. The poll itself shows that it is the older generation which leans towards print media and the younger lot is now looking online for bargains. The poll also reflects that the ones with more purchasing power are the ones who prefer online bargains. Nothing could be better news for your small online venture.

With more potential buyers turning to the virtual shopping malls, it makes sense to reach out to their inboxes with bargains, coupons, discounts and other promotional stuff. It is not too difficult to find the right target market online. Once you have touched them with emails, keeping a track of their response and interest is relatively easier in the virtual world.

You can easily keep track of who opened your email, and of them who visited your website and further still who took advantage of your offer. This can help you narrow down to those who could be potential or even regular customers. You can then build and maintain relationships with them. This is definitely not possible when you use the print media.

Another surprise that this poll threw up was that to most people are not particular about one medium or the other, so one can safely assume that that anyone can look online for a bargain. Practically speaking email marketing packs the punches of both direct marketing and mail marketing combined.

This doesn’t mean that print media is to be entirely ruled out. Certain situations warrant the need of print marketing. In case your virtual venture is an extension of a real world business; print media can help you cover the market segments that may not be touched with online marketing. To gauge the effectiveness of your print marketing, you can include coupons that may be redeemed in exchange of gifts or discounts. The number of coupons that come back to you will give you a fair idea of how effective your campaign has been.

This is definitely more expensive than the cheap software that you can easily incorporate in your online website to keep track of customer behavior.

30 Days To A Great Blog Challenge - 25. Keep An Eye On What is Happening in Your niche.

As a blogger it is important to know what is happening in your niche as it is to be creative and come up with something new of your own.

While writing should be an activity which you should focus on primarily, but as a blogger there are other things that you may need to keep an eye on. You may need to do a fair bit of reading and interaction with other readers in your niche. Watching what other blogger in your niche are doing or writing about can definitely help you keep pace and updated with latest news in your niche.

Reasons To keep yourself about latest news and updates in your niche.

1. Ideas for new posts - This is one of the main challenges that every blogger has faced sometime in his life. Ever found yourself running out of ideas for new posts. Bloggers who are successful always keep themselves updated about what others are writing in their niche. This not only helps them get ideas for their posts but also add freshness to their blog. Although it is not recommended to write posts on current topics, but there are certain situations when writing such posts would help your blog in the long run. Good bloggers write timeless posts but they sometimes do not hesitate to write posts on current topics as well which might bring about a significant increase in traffic for a short period of time.

2. Being aware at all times - This is more relevant for some niches especially ones dedicated to news and current events but sometimes can do wonders for others as well. As a reader I am always looking for latest news and happenings in every field. If I visit a blog which is does not contain latest news, it might give me a bad impression about the blogger. This will tell me that either writer is out of touch or lazy enough to not write about it.

3. Promoting yourself as an expert and boosting your reputation.
If you can continuously keep your blog updated about latest news and happenings in your niche, then sooner or later you will be recognized as an expert in your niche. There are many internet marketers making millions online because they could keep pace with the latest developments in their field. Providing references to useful content on the internet can help boost your online reputation as a respectable blogger.

4. Social Networking
Following what others are talking about on social networks enables you to receive alerts about issues relevant to your niche and take advantage of it. It can help you get notice of others, if you regularly link or tweet about them on social media.

5. Managing your reputation.
It is very important to know what others are talking about you. It is very important to build trust online and maintain it. It helps you build good relationships with people who are talking positive about you and your business. Equally it will help you to eliminate any negative talk which may be harmful for you and your company.

Today's Task.

Set Up multiple alerts in your niche.

1. Technorati Watchlist.
This is a service which is pretty similar to Google Alerts with one unique advantage. It will give you the latest blog posts mentioning the keywords you wish to receive alerts on.

2. Twitter Alerts.
Similar to technorati alerts there are certain Twitter tools which help you keep up to date with tweets mentioning the targeted keywords. This will help you quickly find out latest news and tweet about it.

3. RSS Reader amd Google news.
Google news will give you all the instances of keywords mentioned in news, videos, web or Groups. This can help you join groups of your choice and develop network with influential people. Also subscribing to RSS feeds will provide ease to access latest posts of your favorite blog all at one place.

Types Of alerts which you can set up.

1. Target keywords from your industry.
These are keywords which are relevant to niche in which are blogging. For example if your blog is concentrated on giving tips to make money online, then you must monitor "make money online" and other related keywords. They key point here is to set up alerts which deliver only relevant results and do not bombard with you with junk suggestions. It is important to choose a very reliable service in this case.

2. Specific Alerts.
These are keywords relevant to only you and your blog. It may include your name, URL, products you are promoting, etc. It will help you to know about your popularity across the Internet.

How to go about the task?
1. Prepare a list of all the keywords which are relevant to your blog and niche.(These words would help you bring in good amount of organic traffic to your blog).

2. Once you have prepared the list of all the keywords, you might want to use an alert tool to monitor the mentions of them on the Internet.

3. Monitor the results and try to link to sites providing relevant and quality information on that topic.

30 Days To A Great Blog Challenge - 24. Comment On Other Blogs.

This post is just an extension of the ideas presented in my post Commenting is good for bloggers.

The most common piece of advice given to all newbie bloggers is "Comment On Other Blogs". It is not so much a traffic building technique, but sure is a method to boost your credibility and let your blog be seen. No other method can be as effective as this if you are looking to build relationships with other bloggers in your niche.

A good 30-35 minutes spend every single day reading and interacting with other bloggers in your niche would help your blog improve a great deal. Most of you might be wondering, how can commenting on other blogs help improve your blog? It is quite simple. No blogger is perfect and constantly needs feedback from his readers in order to improve his blog. As a reader if you are ready to give your honest opinions to others, you can expect others to do the same for you. This way you can help improve other blog and others will help improve yours.

Benefits of Commenting On Other blogs:

1. Knowing other bloggers and blogs in your niche.

2. Understanding the current trending topics in your niche.

3. Showing your level of expertise on the topic.

4. Build relationships with readers from other blogs.

For tips on how to get traffic from commenting on other blogs you can refer the blog post Comenting is good for bloggers.

Today's Task for all bloggers.
Visit blogs in your niche. Go through the entire blog post or a majority of it before commenting because sometimes titles can me misleading. Happened to me quite often and has left me embarrassed many times. Spend around 30 -35 minutes going through blog post and commenting on other blogs. Soon you will notice that your blog is getting good number of comments as well.

A blog post with zero or less comments is not as effective as a blog with 20-25 comments. If you are lucky enough you can get more comments but you should get at least 20 comments on your blog posts everyday.

30 Days To A Great Blog Challenge - 23. Write A sticky Post.

Before discussing how to write a sticky post let us first understand what exactly we mean by 'sticky content'.

Sticky content is a special type of content which is written in order to get the readers hooked to it and spend maximum time on a website. Sticky content is very important for any kind of website especially for ones which have low traffic and a high bounce rate.

It is said that more time a reader spends on a website more likely he is to subscribe to a blog and become a regular reader of the blog. Hence it is important for websites to have sticky content in order to increase its subscriber's base and page views. What makes you visit your favorite blog time and again? What made you subscribe to the blog at first place? Is it the reputation of the blogger or something else? How much time did you spend on that blog before deciding to subscribe to its RSS feed? The more content you put in front of the eye balls better are the chances to impress them. I am sure most of you might have spent more than 1 minute on the blog minimum before subscribing to it.

So how do you go about writing such content? It is observed that most of the readers do not like long posts unless the topic is really interesting. Readers prefer content which is presented in a systematic manner. This is the reason why most list posts are very popular among the readers. Also, readers are likely to at least go through the list presented in the post if not the entire content.

Today's task for all bloggers.
Write a sticky post on a topic. Use analytics like Google Analytics to keep check of the time spent by readers on the post. Also find out the conversion rate for the post i.e the number of first time visitors subscribing to your blog after reading your post.
